The U.S. handbag market in context
eBay handbag resale does not sit in a vacuum. Bags ride the same demand as the broader clothing and accessories market and the long shift of retail spending online, so it helps to read the eBay numbers against the macro backdrop. These are national retail figures from the U.S. Census, not eBay.
What this means for sellers
The series under this chart is retail sales at U.S. clothing and clothing accessories stores, NAICS 448, seasonally adjusted. Handbags sit inside it and there is no handbags-only Census line, so read it as the accessories market this category sells into rather than as a handbag number. It reached $28.3B in July 2026, the highest month in the series and up 5.0% on July 2025. Demand for the goods is not what is holding eBay sell-through down.
U.S. online sales reached $330B in the second quarter of 2026, up 12.4% year on year and about 3 times their 2018 level, with the Q4 2025 holiday quarter peaking at $365B. That is the pool eBay competes inside, and it is still growing on both a quarterly and an annual basis.
On eBay an estimated 9,965 handbags sold in 30 days for $1,174,548 against 90,736 live listings, an 11.0% sell-through and about 9.1 listings sitting live for every monthly sale. ZIK scores the category Medium competition. The eight segments are overlapping keyword tags rather than a partition, so one Gucci leather shoulder bag is counted in three of them at once. Added up they come to 12,823 units, 128.7% of the headline, and 98,630 live listings, 108.7% of it, while their revenue adds to $1,061,296, only 90.4%. The three columns overshoot and undershoot in different directions, so read the segments against each other and never as a total.
Two things the tables will not tell you unless you look. Seven of the twelve highest-volume products are not handbags at all: two leather and shoe care products, three replacement chain and leather straps, a bifold wallet and a bag organiser insert, together 283 of the 489 units in that table at an average of $8.29. And the money is stacked at the top. The ten largest sellers hold 2,049 listings, 2.26% of the category, and take $583,088, 49.6% of estimated revenue, at $773.33 a sale. Strip those ten out and the rest of the market averages $64.21.

Best Selling Handbags on eBay FAQs
It can be, but not on volume. Handbags moved an estimated 9,965 units in the last 30 days for $1,174,548 at $117.87 a sale, against 90,736 active listings. That is an 11.0% sell-through, about 9.1 listings sitting live for every monthly sale, and ZIK scores the category Medium competition. The money is not spread evenly. The ten largest sellers hold 2.26% of the listings and take 49.6% of the revenue at $773.33 a sale. Strip those ten out and the rest of the market averages $64.21. Profit here comes from picking a lane: mid-priced stock that actually turns, or high-value stock you have the capital to hold.
Coach clears fastest of the eight segments at 19.2% sell-through on 651 units, ahead of crossbody at 14.6% and shoulder at 14.0%. Tote follows at 12.8%, designer at 12.2% and leather at 11.2%. The two luxury tags are slowest, Prada at 7.8% and Gucci at 6.9%. One caution on reading those numbers. The segments are overlapping keyword tags, not slices of a pie, so a single Gucci leather shoulder bag is counted in three of them at once and the eight add to 12,823 units against a 9,965 headline. Compare the segments against each other, which is valid, rather than against the 11.0% category figure, which is a different basis.
Start with the listing pool rather than the sales. ZIK scores handbags Medium competition across 90,736 active listings, and the scarcity inside the category is uneven. Prada shows 768 active listings and Designer 781, against 32,821 for leather and 26,166 for shoulder. Coach sits between them at 3,385 listings on 651 sales, which is why it clears 19.2% while leather clears 11.2%. Then check what a listing slot returns, not only how fast it moves. Prada gives $29.07 of revenue per live listing, Gucci $27.09 and Coach $24.05, against $12.94 for the category and $6.76 for crossbody. Use ZIK product research to weigh sold units against active listings segment by segment.
The blended average sold price is $117.87, on $1,174,548 of estimated revenue across 9,965 units. The spread underneath it is enormous. Across the eight segments the realised price runs from $46.21 for crossbody to $394.73 for Gucci and $372.12 for Prada, about eight and a half times end to end. Coach lands at $125.06, leather at $118.32, tote at $66.73 and shoulder at $61.56. Asking prices sit far above all of these. Live listings average $785.47 in leather and $661.86 in designer, six and a half times and more than nine times what those two tags actually realise. Price to the segment you are sourcing, not to the headline and not to what other sellers are asking.
ZIK ranks using sold-listing data, weighing units sold, sell-through and listing competition together rather than raw volume, so a busy but crowded segment does not automatically outrank a thinner, more winnable one. Three things are worth knowing about how to read these tables. The segments are keyword matches, so one bag appears under several of them and the eight add to 128.7% of the category units, 108.7% of the listings and only 90.4% of the revenue. A brand tag like Coach and a style tag like Crossbody are different kinds of thing. And the keyword catches bag accessories too, so seven of the twelve top products are straps, leather care, a wallet and an organiser rather than bags.
This data carries no condition field, so treat what follows as a proxy rather than an answer. Volume is cheap and small. The twelve top-moving products are inexpensive items mostly under $16, and seven of them are not bags at all but replacement straps, leather care products, a wallet and an organiser insert. All twelve together are 489 units, 4.9% of the category, and $12,502, about 1% of the revenue. The revenue sits with pre-owned branded stock instead. The ten largest sellers average $773.33 a sale and eight of the ten sell close to one unit per listing, which is what single-piece consignment inventory looks like. If you are sourcing wallets and clutches, read the purses report instead.
Coach is the standout this month. It sold 651 units at 19.2% sell-through and $125.06 a bag, the fastest clearance of the eight segments and the most active branded segment on this page. The luxury labels behave differently. Gucci sold 79 at $394.73 and Prada 60 at $372.12, but they clear at only 6.9% and 7.8%, the two slowest rates here. Search demand names makers this page cannot rank. Louis vuitton bag averages $863.09 a sale, michael kors bag $102.11 and kate spade bag $86.00, all trending up, but none of those three has a segment, so there is no sell-through figure to set beside the price.
Yes, but as a different business rather than a faster one. Gucci and Prada are the two slowest-clearing segments at 6.9% and 7.8%, so capital sits. What the sell-through column hides is yield per listing slot. Divide each segment's 30-day revenue by its active listings and Prada returns $29.07 and Gucci $27.09, against $12.94 for the category as a whole and $6.76 for crossbody. That only pays if you can source authentic stock below market, document condition properly, and wait. One warning on the word itself. The Designer tag is not a luxury tag. It realises $70.42 a bag while its live listings ask $661.86, the widest gap on the page at 9.4 times.
