The U.S. home goods market in context
eBay home resale does not sit in a vacuum. Furniture, lighting, decor and kitchen ride the same demand as the broader home-furnishings market and the long shift of retail spending online, so it helps to read the eBay numbers against the macro backdrop.
What this means for sellers
U.S. furniture and home furnishing store sales ran at $11.35B in July 2026, down 1.2% on the year and about 10% below the January 2023 peak of $12.65B. The last twelve months have all landed between $11.0B and $11.5B, so new-goods home spending is not falling any more, it is flat. Flat retail is when buyers start hunting the same lamp or shelving unit secondhand.
U.S. online sales reached $330B in the second quarter of 2026, up 12.4% year on year and about 3 times their 2018 level, with the Q4 2025 holiday quarter peaking at $365B. So a flat home category sits inside a channel that is still growing, and more of that home demand lands on resale marketplaces like eBay each year.
On eBay this is the largest category ZIK tracks: an estimated 4,394,123 items sold in 30 days, worth $189.81M, against 16,463,274 live listings. That headline covers the whole of eBay's Home and Garden category, outdoor power equipment and garden machinery included, which is why lawnmower and ATV parts sellers appear in the seller table. The eight segments below cover the indoor-home slice and sum to about 9% of it.
Inside that slice, size and speed run in opposite directions. Lighting is the biggest segment at 146,431 sales but clears 23.2% against 630,346 rival listings and scores only Medium opportunity. The two High-opportunity segments are the two smallest: bedding, 9,167 sales clearing 26.4% on 34,694 listings, and furniture, 10,146 clearing 13.6% on 74,498. Rugs are the warning at the other end, 200,953 listings clearing 8.2%, the slowest here and the dearest at $91.27.

Best Selling Home Products on eBay FAQs
Lighting, among the tracked segments. An estimated 146,431 lighting items sold in the trailing 30 days, worth $5.32M, ahead of kitchen at 82,318 and storage at 64,569. But the product table tells a different story: five of the twelve highest-volume listings are Egyptian cotton sheets and duvet sets at $5.99, and bedding is the smallest segment on the page at 9,167 units. The two views disagree because segments are keyword facets over a huge category while the product table is individual listings. Lighting is the biggest pool of demand; cheap bedding is where single listings move the most units.
Bedding, at 26.4% sell-through, then lighting at 23.2% and kitchen at 20.4%. The floor is rugs at 8.2% and decor at 12.0%. Bedding gets there on the smallest listing pool of the eight, 34,694, which is what a fast segment usually looks like: modest supply against steady replacement demand. Rugs are the opposite, 200,953 live listings clearing 8.2%. Note that the category as a whole reads 26.7%, higher than seven of its own eight segments, because the headline covers all of Home and Garden while the segments cover the indoor slice.
Supply and shipping, in that order. Rugs carry 200,953 live listings, the fourth largest pool on the page, and cleared 16,449 sales in the window for an 8.2% sell-through, the slowest of the eight segments. They are also the dearest thing here at $91.27 a sale, and a rug is bulky, heavy and awkward to pack, so the delivered cost is a larger share of the price than it is for a lamp or a pillowcase. ZIK scores the segment Medium competition and Low opportunity. A high average price does not make a segment a good entry point.
Furniture and bedding are the only two segments ZIK scores Low competition and High opportunity. Bedding clears 26.4%, the fastest here, on just 34,694 listings at $26.38 a sale. Furniture clears 13.6% on 74,498 listings at $46.60. Both are small: 9,167 and 10,146 sales in the window, the two smallest on the page, so neither will fill a store on its own. Set them against lighting and decor, which sit on nearly a million listings between them and score High competition. Note that eBay also has a dedicated furniture report if that segment is where you want depth.
The category averages $43.20 a sale. Across segments it runs from curtains at $24.76 up to rugs at $91.27, under a four-fold spread. Buyer search terms scatter wider: area rug averages $120.68 a sale against kitchen gadgets at $13.02. The product table stretches further still, from $0.99 cabinet handles and $1.99 wheelie bin stickers to a refurbished Dyson V15 at $439.99, which took $366,072 from 832 sales and is the single biggest revenue line on the page. Segment averages tell you very little about what any individual listing will fetch.
Because most listings never sell, and the ones that do are the cheap ones. Every segment here shows the gap, and it is large. Furniture asks $294.98 on average and realises $46.60, a factor of six. Lighting asks $190.77 and realises $36.35. Rugs ask $293.49 and realise $91.27. The narrowest gap on the page is curtains, asking $52.47 against $24.76 realised, and that is still a doubling. Sorting live listings by price tells you what sellers hope for. The realised column is the only one describing money that changed hands.
Because eBay files them here. This category is Home and Garden, which includes outdoor power equipment, garden machinery and their parts, so sellers like mowthelawnus, caltric and reliableaftermarketparts appear in the top ten by revenue alongside Dyson and vipoutlet. It is worth stating plainly rather than quietly filtering: the headline of 4.39 million items covers the whole of that category, while the eight segments below it cover the indoor-home slice and sum to about 9% of it. Read the headline as Home and Garden and the segment table as home goods.
Two business models, and the gap between them is extreme. ecoflowdirect took $2.89M from 3,548 sales on 109 live listings, about $814 a sale. eco-worthy-us took $1.64M from 1,553 sales on 173 listings, roughly $1,056 a sale. At the other end, vipoutlet moved 39,639 units for $2.25M from 20,147 listings, about $57 a sale, and caltric 32,061 units for $1.08M from 31,483 listings. dysonofficial sits in between, $1.20M from just 39 listings. A narrow catalogue of expensive goods and a warehouse of cheap ones can take similar money.
Led lights is the only term ZIK scores High demand, and it comes with High competition, which is the usual trade. Bathroom accessories and kitchen gadgets are the two Low competition terms, but both score Low demand to match. The prices are what separate them: area rug averages $120.68 a sale and storage box $44.44, against $13.02 for kitchen gadgets. One honest caveat on this table. All ten terms come back Rising, which is what the trend signal does when recent velocity runs hot across a category, so treat it as directional and lean on the demand, price and competition columns instead.
ZIK weighs units sold, sell-through and competition together rather than ranking on volume alone. That is why lighting leads on units with 146,431 sales and still scores only Medium opportunity, while bedding sells 9,167 and scores High: lighting competes against 630,346 live listings, bedding against 34,694. Decor makes the point from the other side, third largest listing pool and second slowest on the page, which earns it Low opportunity. Every figure comes from ZIK's own marketplace data for the trailing 30 days. The headline covers eBay's full Home and Garden category, outdoor power equipment included; the segments below cover home goods.
