The U.S. sunglasses market in context
eBay is one slice of a much larger market. Here is how U.S. retail and e-commerce frame the demand behind these sunglasses numbers.
What this means for sellers
Sunglasses have no Census series of their own. The closest honest line is the one charted above, retail sales at clothing and clothing accessories stores, NAICS 448, seasonally adjusted, which carries eyewear alongside everything else in the accessories aisle. It reached a record $28.3B in July 2026, up 5.0% on July 2025 and about 41% above January 2021, so the spend eyewear sits inside is still growing. One caveat this page states rather than hides: that series is seasonally adjusted, so it deliberately removes the summer to autumn swing a sunglasses seller actually feels.
U.S. online sales reached $330B in the second quarter of 2026, up 12.4% year on year and about 3 times their 2018 level, with the Q4 2025 holiday quarter peaking at $365B. That line is all retail rather than eyewear, and unlike the chart beside it, it is not seasonally adjusted, which is why every fourth quarter stands proud of the one before it. Read it as the channel growing under this category, not as a shape sunglasses demand follows.
On eBay an estimated 67,115 pairs sold in 30 days for $4.91 million against 194,128 live listings, a 34.6% sell-through and about 2.9 listings sitting live for every monthly sale. ZIK scores the category High competition. The eight named styles cover 63.9% of units but only 41.9% of listings, so together they clear 52.7% while everything they do not name clears 21.5%. Naming the style is most of the work. Two things pollute a sunglasses keyword pull and both are visible in the tables below: six of the twelve brand cells are words lifted out of titles rather than makers, and the third highest volume row is listed as a frame with a case.
The two thinnest listing pools are also the two fastest, and they sit at opposite ends of the price range. Sport clears 89.6% at $18.77 a pair on 4,420 listings, wayfarer 88.4% at $69.04 on 2,128, and they are the only two Low competition styles in the table. Yield separates them: wayfarer returns $61.03 per live listing against sport's $16.82, on a category that returns $25.27. Polarized is the volume trade at 23,133 pairs and 63.3%, but on 36,554 listings, 18.8% of everything live here, it scores Medium opportunity. Brand names do not settle price either. The four Ray-Ban titled rows in the product table realise $30.97 to $38.99, under half the $78.47 the ray ban search term averages.

Best Selling Sunglasses on eBay FAQs
Yes on this window, though the average hides two different businesses. An estimated 67,115 pairs sold in the last 30 days for $4.91 million against 194,128 live listings, a 34.6% sell-through at $73.10 a pair. The seller table shows where the money sits. The ten leading accounts hold 2.07% of the live listings and take 17.2% of units and 33.0% of revenue, and every one of them averages above the category price, from sneakar at $77.48 a pair to sunglassparade at $225.63. Take those ten out and the rest of the market averages $59.16 a pair and clears 29.2%. That second figure is the one an independent seller should plan against.
Sport clears fastest at 89.6% in the current ZIK window, then wayfarer at 88.4% and polarized at 63.3%. The other five sit in a narrow band: oversized 39.5%, aviator 37.6%, vintage 37.2%, designer 36.8% and round 30.6%, all inside 8.9 points of each other. So the decision that matters is whether you are in the fast tier at all, not which of the slower five you pick. One caution on sport. It clears fastest and averages $18.77 a pair, and its 3,961 sales produced $74,353, which works out at $16.82 for every live sport listing against $61.03 for wayfarer. Fast is not the same as profitable.
Start with how many people are already listing it. Wayfarer carries 2,128 live listings and sport 4,420, the two thinnest pools of the eight, and they are the only two styles scoring Low competition and High opportunity. Polarized is the opposite trade: 36,554 listings, 18.8% of everything live in the category, and a High competition score even though it clears 63.3%. Read the segment table against itself rather than against the headline. The eight named styles cover 63.9% of category units but only 41.9% of listings, so together they clear 52.7% while everything they do not name clears 21.5%. Seven of the eight beat the 34.6% category figure, which tells you about the headline rather than about the styles.
The category averages $73.10 a pair. By style, wayfarer is dearest at $69.04, aviator next at $61.95 and polarized at $58.99, while sport is cheapest at $18.77 and designer $27.90. Every style sits under the category average, and that is a coverage artifact rather than a discount: the eight named styles cover 63.9% of units and average $50.25, while the unnamed remainder averages $113.63, and that is what lifts the headline. Watch the gap between asking and selling. Sport is listed at an average $58.80 and sells at $18.77, vintage asks $115.96 and gets $37.88, and those are the two widest gaps in the table at about three times. Price to the sold column.
ZIK ranks segments on sold listing data, weighing units sold, sell-through and competition together rather than volume alone. Polarized shows why. It ranks first on units at 23,133, 5.8 times the next style, and still scores only Medium opportunity, because 36,554 listings are already competing for those sales. Wayfarer ranks seventh on units at 1,881 and scores High, on 2,128 listings. One definition to keep in mind: sell-through here is units sold divided by live listings over the same 30 days, so a multi-quantity listing that sells repeatedly can carry a figure above 100%. The ten leading sellers clear 288% on that measure, 11,550 sales from 4,012 listings.
The seller table leans hard towards new and branded. All ten leading accounts average above the $73.10 category price, and the two highest, sunglassparade at $225.63 a pair and newbranditems at $214.48, are selling condition and authenticity rather than volume. If you go pre-owned, price it as stock rather than as a collectible. Vintage carries the widest absolute gap on the page between what sellers ask and what they get, an average $115.96 listed against $37.88 realised, and it still clears only 37.2%. One limit worth stating: this window carries no condition field, so the split above is read off seller pricing and behaviour, not measured.
This window cannot rank brands, and it is worth being straight about why. There is no brand segment in the category, and the brand column on the product table is unusable on half its rows: three read Various, and three more were parsed out of descriptive words in the title into Aluminum, Men and Polarized. A fourth row is a genuine Ray-Ban tagged Various because its title starts with New. What the search terms show is that oakley sunglasses averages $88.92 a sale and ray ban sunglasses $78.47, the only two of the ten tracked terms above the $73.10 category average. The name alone is not the price: the four Ray-Ban titled rows realise $30.97 to $38.99, under half that keyword average.
