The U.S. electronics retail market in context
How the U.S. electronics retail market is trending, from official U.S. Census data, and what it means for your eBay tablet sourcing. These are national retail figures, not eBay.
What this means for sellers
U.S. electronics and appliance store sales ran at $8.11B in July 2026, up 4.7% on July 2025 and 2.4% short of the April 2022 peak of $8.32B. The line has climbed for a year, from $7.75B last July to $8.20B in April. There is no tablet-only retail series, so this is the honest proxy: NAICS 443 is the group that contains consumer electronics retail. New tablet sales are what free up last-generation ones, and last-generation iPads are almost the whole of this page.
U.S. online sales reached $330B in the second quarter of 2026, up 12.4% year on year and about 3 times their 2018 level, with the Q4 2025 holiday quarter peaking at $365B. Tablets suit that shift, because a generation, a storage figure, a connectivity type and a condition grade describe a unit precisely enough to buy it without handling it.
On eBay, ZIK tracked an estimated 6,422 tablets sold in the last 30 days, worth $1,266,111 against 23,173 live listings, a 27.7% sell-through at $197.15 a sale, with competition scoring Medium. Treat that 27.7% with more caution than any other figure on this hub. Ten sellers took 84.9% of the units and 90.0% of the revenue from 528 listings, 2.28% of the pool, and one of them, eazytrade84, moved 3,078 units from 275 listings and took 47.7% of the category's revenue by itself. Strip those ten out and everyone else clears 4.3%. This is the most concentrated category we track, and at 6,422 units it is also the smallest report on the hub.
Connectivity separates fast stock from slow more cleanly than model does. Cellular units clear 1,652 sales against 1,267 listings, a rate above 100% because one listing can carry many units, at $206.52 a sale, and Wi-Fi models clear 65.4%. iPad Air follows at 48.7%. The premium end is the trap: iPad Pro carries the highest price on the page at $364.17 but clears only 22.8% against 4,611 listings, scoring High competition and Low opportunity. The Android and e-reader end is slower still, with Galaxy Tab at 4.7% against 4,925 listings and Amazon Fire at 3.5%. Kindle is the quiet exception, 22.5% against only 698 listings, scoring Low competition and High opportunity.

Best Selling Tablets on eBay FAQs
The margins look attractive and the concentration is severe, so read both together. ZIK tracked 6,422 tablets sold in 30 days for $1,266,111, a 27.7% sell-through against 23,173 live listings at $197.15 a sale, with competition scoring Medium. But ten sellers took 84.9% of the units and 90.0% of the revenue from only 528 listings, and one of them, eazytrade84, accounted for 47.7% of the category's revenue by itself. This is the most concentrated page on the hub. Strip those ten out and everyone else clears 4.3%, not 27.7%. The headline describes two or three refurbishing operations, not the market an individual seller enters.
Cellular-capable stock, decisively. The cellular segment cleared 1,652 units against just 1,267 listings, a rate above 100% because single listings carry multiple units, and it is the only segment scoring Medium competition with High opportunity. Wi-Fi models follow at 65.4% and iPad Air at 48.7%. At the other end, Galaxy Tab cleared 4.7% against 4,925 listings and Amazon Fire 3.5% against 1,006, so the Android side of this category is slow in this window.
The gaps are cellular models, iPad Air and Kindle, not the obvious premium lines. iPad Pro scores High competition and Low opportunity despite carrying the highest price on the page, because 4,611 listings chase 1,053 sales. Cellular and iPad Air both score High opportunity at Medium competition. Kindle is small but clean: 157 units against 698 listings at 22.5%, scoring Low competition and High opportunity. Galaxy Tab looks tempting on listing count until you see 4.7% sell-through against a High competition score.
The category average sold price is $197.15, the second highest on this hub after phones. iPad Pro leads at $364.17 a sale, with iPad Mini at $223.53, iPad Air $219.97, Wi-Fi models generally $215.12 and cellular $206.52. The Android and e-reader end sits well below that: Galaxy Tab $163.29, Kindle $111.60 and Amazon Fire $81.00. Apple stock accounts for every one of the top twelve sold listings in this window.
ZIK ranks from sold-listing data rather than listing counts, weighing units sold, sell-through and competition together. That is why iPad Pro carries the highest price on this page but scores Low opportunity, while Kindle, at a fraction of the volume, scores High. Every figure comes from a trailing 30-day window of eBay US sold listings and is dated on the page.
Lead with generation, storage and connectivity, because that trio is what buyers filter on. The best-selling listings name the generation explicitly, iPad 9th Gen, iPad Air 4th Gen, iPad Mini 5th Gen, and state whether the unit is Wi-Fi or cellular, which is the strongest turnover signal in this data. Check activation lock before listing, confirm battery health, and state screen condition plainly rather than relying on photographs. Several of the fastest movers also carry a stated warranty, which is doing visible work at this price point.
iPad Pro carries the highest average sale at $364.17, but the volume sits in older standard iPads. The fastest-moving sold listings this window are the iPad 9th generation at 64GB, the iPad Mini 5th generation, the iPad 8th generation, the iPad Air 4th generation and the iPad 10th generation, mostly Wi-Fi models in Good to Very Good condition. Older generations at modest storage clear faster than current Pro stock at high storage.
